Atari's Greatest Hits on iOS 8

Post by CodeMystics »

Hi everyone,

We are aware of an issue with Atari's Greatest Hits under iOS 8 which causes the following problems:
  1. If you upgrade to iOS 8 without uninstalling the game, control art will not appear in unlocked games. The game is otherwise playable, though the controls cannot be seen.
  2. If you install or re-install Atari's Greatest Hits after upgrading to iOS 8, unlocked games will fail to install, reporting "Download 'game name' Failed. Error writing file."
As Code Mystics is merely the developer of the game, not the publisher, we are unable to update the app in the App Store ourselves. However, we have made contact with Atari and are attempting to help them resolve the problem. We'll update you as we know more.

Shame on Atari.

Good on Code Mystics.

BTW your Vita port of Nidhogg is completely brilliant, thank you for making it.

How long must this go on? Isn't there any way to prod them into actiion?

We are engaged in conversations with Apple and Atari. The primary issue is that, as we have not been retained to work on the app in the last two years, Atari's Greatest Hits remains an iOS 5 app, and Apple no longer accepts iOS 5 apps.

Is there any estimate on how long before a fix is offered, I understand the limitations of not being the publisher and that apple doesn't support iOS 5 apps, what I am wondering is when an iOS 8 update of atari's greatest hits will be available. Atari says that we are waiting on the developer, the developer says that we can't act without the publisher, meanwhile Apple says its a third party thing. I just want my AGH back.

Could you tell us who you are speaking to at Atari? Could you forward their reply to us by private message please?

We have not been retained to provide an iOS 8 update. In fact, we have not been retained to work on the app since 2012. However, we're very sympathetic to the fans of the game and so we have offered a solution (free of charge) to Atari and Apple that works around the download problems in the iOS 5 app. The timing of if and when that solution is implemented is not in our hands.

The email I got was from "Arthur G." Writing from generic email address customer support@atari.com he states :

"this issue is already under review by the developing team in order to release a fix or update."

I took him to mean by "developing team" the app developer, or Code Mystics.

Was there another "developing team" involved in this app?

No. The situation is this: iOS 8 is incompatible with AGH, which was developed for iOS 5. We have provided a solution within that iOS 5 framework. Atari as the publisher needs to get the app through Apple review. We have been assisting them with that to the extent we can, but the timing as it stands is out of our control.

So does this mean it's a pretty sure bet that this will actually happen, sooner or later?
